Tripura is noted for its wonderful and beautiful bamboo, cane and wooden handicrafts including cotton, silk, and polyester. Visitors can watch the craft persons at work and end up shopping at 'Purbasha' and any of the Handloom and Handicrafts sales Emporium in any of the tourist centres including Agartala. There are many shopping places for the locals and for the tourists in Agartala like ML Plaza which is one of the established movie theatres and there is a mall with a number of shops and eateries. The other is Jagat Bazar which presents a wide range of products from electronics items, ornaments, best quality books, handicrafts and ready-made garments. The bazaar is lined with a number of small shops with products at reasonable rates. Dupattas, earrings, salwar kameezes, bangles and bindis of different colours are available from these shops but one of the must-visit shopping centre is Purnasha Tripura Emporium. The Purnasha Tripura Emporium is in Agartala the capital city of the state and it is a government emporium of Tripura. This emporium is a beautiful place with good local handicraft and other local stuff like bamboo and canes along with varieties of sarees.

Bamboo handicrafts in Agartala

It is a good place for purchasing Tripura handicrafts & mementoes, though stocks & varieties are limited and bit costly. The emporium is very clean and well maintained but in the evening the place closes at 5 pm. The Purbasha emporium stocks a variety of products as also furniture made from cane and bamboo. There are baskets, table mats and runners, trays, stools, chairs and tables, all made from cane or bamboo. There are a few pieces on the ground floor and several other pieces on the basement floor. The place is worth to visit and many visitors and the locals visit the place it is one of the must-visit places in the state of Tripura. The sarees are simple and elegant and it is available in affordable prices. The silk & handloom sarees available are worth the price.
