Walk on the beautiful Chagzam Bridge

Chagzam Bridge means an Iron bridge is one of the famous bridges in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. The bridge was built by a disciple of the first Dalai Lama Tangton Gyalpo. First Dalai Lama who is popularly known as Lama Chang Zam Wangpo was an architect, Philosopher and Iron chain bridge, builder. The Iron Bridge Changzam Bridge was named in the honor of Lama Chang Zam Wangpo. The first Dalai Lama Chang Zam Wangpo has built more than 100 iron bridges. Lama Chang Zam Wangpo has built bridges all over the Himalayan region. During 1420-1430 Lama Chang Zam Wangpo built the bridge over Tawang-chu River to make a passage through Kitpi and Mukto. The bridge that exemplifies the finest metallurgy is about 25 km away from the Tawang town.

Chagzam Bridge is the oldest iron bridge in Arunachal Pradesh, located over river Tasomg Chu. Chagzam Bridge iron chain suspension bridge is estimated to be almost 600 years old. Chag-Zam Bridge represents a rare and remarkable architecture. Many local people visit Chag-Zam Bridge and most of the tourists visit this as place as it is one of the sightseeing points of Tawang. Whenever you get a chance to visit Tawang do not forget to visit Chagzam Bridge.

Tawang is easily accessible by road. The nearest airport is Tezpur airport of Assam, from Tezpur airport, one needs to travel by road. The nearest railway station is Bhalukpong and from Bhalukpong, one needs to travel by road to reach Tawang. Another easily accessible airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati, Assam. Most of the travelers travel to Tawang via road from Guwahati. The best time to visit Tawang is during the months of March to June, September, and October because the temperature remains comfortable and it pleasant. During winter it is very cold and most of the time the roads are blocked due to heavy snowfall. So it is better to visit during the summer and the onset of the monsoon season.
