The Guwahati Planetarium one of its kind in the entire North East of India was established in the year 1994 and is located on the MG Road in Uzan Bazar opposite to the Guwahati High Court building. The Planetarium is equipped with state of art state-of-the-art GOTO Japan’s Hybrid Planetarium Projection System, which is used for creating realistic sky with millions of stars and celestial bodies. Besides the star sky the planetarium also have high quality telescopes to encourage student and astronomers for sky watching. The planetarium has shows based on the following themes

Cosmic Collision: the show is about the significant cosmological events starting from the Birth of our Universe to the creation of our planet earth and moon. The show also talks about the Collision of Galaxies to the icy chunks of rocks & dust which form the Saturn’s Ring, asteroid bombarding earth which led to extinction of the great dinosaurs.

Journey to the Stars: This show deals with the life of a star how a star is born to its various stages finally going to its death and becoming a Nova. It shows the size and color of the star with its emissions and the space travel time to reach these stars.

Are we alone? Search for Life!: This show id about the possibilities of finding life in space. The planets which are likely to have similar environment as Earth which are capable of supporting different forms of life and the possibility to find such planets.

Some Facts about the planetarium

  • Seat Capacity per show 141 persons.
  • Show in Assamese: 11 AM, 1:30 PM & 3 PM.
  • Show in English: 12 PM & 4 PM.
  • The Planetarium remains closed for visitors on 1st & 15th day of every Month for purpose of maintenance.
  • Tickets are issued to the visitors 15 minutes prior to the Show Timings.
  • The price for the General Ticket is Rs. 30/- only each.
  • Maximum 4 tickets will be given per head.
  • No eatables and liquid inside main Planetarium.
  • You can keep your water bottles and eatables outside the main premise which can be collected after the show.
