Perfect for people seeking the ultimate pan-Himalayan view, Daman is about 80 km southwest of Kathmandu (approx. 4-hour drive). It is a small hill station located at an altitude of 2322 m and is the perfect getaway to escape from the scorching heat during the summer.

Adorned with nature, Daman is tranquil and surrounded by greenery all around. On the best of days, Daman offers the only unimpeded view of the entire Himalaya range starting from Mount Everest in the east to Dhaulagiri in the west. At the top of the hill of this serene town, there is a view tower fitted with a long-range telescope. The telescope allows visitors to enjoy views of 8000 m tall mountains that Nepal so proudly boasts of.

Daman is one of the travel routes to get to Hetauda, the capital of Province-3. The road to Hetauda passes through rhododendron forests. During the spring season, the forest welcomes its visitors with bright and different colored rhododendrons.

Snowfall in Daman

Snowfall is one of the major attractions for domestic tourists. As soon as the winter showers hit, snowfall in Daman is almost certain. Snowfall here is very common; mostly in early January.

3 Things to do in Daman

(1) Visit the Mountain Botanical Garden

Spread over 15 hectares of forest, the Mountain Botanical Garden in Daman offers botany enthusiasts a place to explore and study numerous species of plants, whereas, for a non-botanist, it is yet another beautiful woodland walk to enjoy within Daman.

(2) Go for Cycling and Biking

Cycling or biking is one of the fun ways to explore Daman and its scattered outskirts. There are many cycling routes in Daman that take you through picturesque countryside.

(3) Pay homage at the Shree Rishikesh Mahadev Temple

This sacred Hindu shrine of Lord Shiva is located 1 km south of Daman. You need to hike through the dense forest to reach the temple, which is an adventure in itself.

Legend has it that when Lord Shiva was carrying the Goddess Sati after her death, the mourning and lamenting Lord Shiva rested for while in a place where the temple stands today. This is why the temple is so revered.

Accommodation

There are a number of hotels and lodges in Daman; however, not in plenty. So, if you are planning to visit this beautiful town, booking in advance is advised. The prices for the stay are average, starting from $10.
