I was in my maternal uncle’s home in a town called Tezpur, Assam when my cousins and I made a plan to visit Bhalukpong in Arunachal Pradesh, which is 57 km away from Tezpur. A road trip seemed to be way more interesting for us instead of other options.
Bhalukpung is located in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. We started our journey around 10 o'clock in the morning. It took us 1 hour 15 mins to reach the cottage we had booked for our night stay. The view of the road that leads to Bhalukpong from Tezpur was surreal. Covered in green foliage from both sides, it gave an absolute picturesque view.
Assam Lodge near Bhalukpong
Bhalukpong is located on the border of the forest of Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary, which in itself is extremely beautiful. The place has great opportunities for different adventurous activities such as trekking, fishing, and river rafting.
Here are the places we visited in Bhalukpong and nearby:
1. Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary
Pakhui Wildlife Sanctuary was the first place we visited. Comprising of rivers on all sides and located in between the Himalayan ranges, you will come across many species of wildlife here, such as tiger, jungle cat, Himalayan black bear, elephant, leopard, barking deer, and flying squirrel. You might also see different bird species like the great pied hornbill, jungle fowl, serpent eagle, and wood duck.

2. Bhalukpong Fort
This place was suggested by my sister, who had already been to this fort earlier. It was built by King Bhaluka around the 10th century on the banks of Bharali River. Today, the fort today lies in ruins but the remaining architecture is still fascinating to look at.
3. Tipi
Next, we visited Tipi, which is 5 km from Bhalukpong. I have to admit that this is by far one of the most beautiful tourist places I have ever been to. Tipi felt like heaven on earth. The beauty of this place simply cannot be put into words. You have to see it with your own eyes to feel it. Tipi is one of the most popular tourist attractions because of the Orchidarium here. The Orchidarium holds more than 50000 varieties of orchids which are nicely displayed in baskets and pots.

4. Bomdila
Bomdila is another destination located to the north of Bhalukpong. We came across some splendid landscapes, pretty orchids, and serene monasteries in Bomdila. If you plan to go to Bhalukpong, make sure to spare a day to visit Bomdila. You will be able to observe and feel the essence and natural beauty of Bomdila.
5. Sessa Orchid Sanctuary
The last spot we visited on this trip was the Sessa Orchid Sanctuary. It is situated in the West Kameng District of Arunachal Pradesh. We were thrilled to encounter more than 200 varieties of orchids in this sanctuary. Sounds exciting, right? It has a plethora of lush greenery with orchids of vivid colors.
Conclusion
We even took elephant safaris in Bhalukpong, and it was great fun. If you visit Bhalukpong, make sure to take an elephant's ride. Other significant activities that you can give a try here are river rafting and angling. If you have the time, you can even choose to visit other tourist destinations in Arunachal Pradesh. I am sure you will love the experience.
