Ngaloi is a small village in about 9 km from the town of Churachandpur in Manipur. This village which is mostly inhabited by the Telsing family members mostly within the Haokip clan of Kukis, was settled by Jangkhohen Haokip around 1950. The uniqueness of village is that it is surrounded by green forested , low-lying Hills. Ngaloi village is also referred to as Ngaloimoul. Being close to Churachandpur and with abundance of natural assets it has become a must visit for tourist and the most important place is the Ngaloi Falls.
On the Churachadpur – Tipaimukh road lies the gentle waterfall named after the village. The waterfall is formed as a series of small cascades over rocks with small pools in between on a local stream. There is a small foot path from the road which leads to the top of the waterfall crossing the stream at couple of places. Normally it would take about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the upper part of the cascade, but with the sound of birds, natural greenery and the water gushing down makes it a good hour’s visit. The best time to visit the falls is during the winter months as the climate is pleasant with cool temperature. Summers could become quite hot and humid while the monsoon season is not recommended as the water turns murky and the rainwater overruns the beauty of the cascading water.
The waterfall is approx 28 km from the tourist town of Moirang and about 9 km from Churachandpur, There are plenty of taxis and buses available both from Moirang as well as Churachandpur. The roadside also has quite a number of small stalls selling tea and local food snacks. If one wants to stay overnight there are home stays and lodges available in Ngaloi village. On the way to the falls one can stop for a while at the Tingtong Park at Lamkha, a small memorial dedicated to General Tintong Haokip of the Kuki Army.
