The Dihing Patkai Festival is an annual festival held at Lekhapani, an industrial town in Tinsukia district of Assam.
The festival is named after the majestic Patkai range and the Dihing River. The Patkai hill range is not as rugged as the Himalayas and comparatively has low-lying peaks. It constitutes 3 mountain ranges: Patkai-Bum (Burmese Kumon Taungdan), the Garo-Khasi-Jaintia, and the Lushai Hills.
Organized by the Government of Assam, this festival was first organised in December 2002. The Dihing Patkai Festival showcases Assamese tribal culture and provides tourists with an unforgettable experience of endless activity and festivity.
The festival incorporates fairs, tea heritage tours, adventure sports, and wildlife tours. Another attraction of the festival is that it offers a visit to the 2nd World War cemeteries. It also arranges for a trip to the Stilwell Road, which was once the passage to the golden land of Myanmar.
Visitors can choose to go for an elephant safari and/or take a nature walk. Food festival, craft fair, and cultural tours are also held during this time. The festival offers a wide range of adventure sports such as angling, parasailing, kayaking. Visitors can also opt to visit the tea gardens and the Digboi oil field.
