Monsoons in Lachung

Monsoon in Lachung starts in July and continues till September. The village experiences heavy rains during this period, which are brought by the southwest monsoons. Although sightseeing might not be as convenient during this time as it is during summer and winter, visitors can still enjoy the beautiful rains, which render the entire village green. The atmosphere is relaxing and the air is as pure during this time as can be.

July monsoon

Lachung receives torrential rainfall during this time owing to its proximity to the Bay of Bengal. However, for tourists and travelers who want to see Lachung in its pristine raw form, July is just the right time. It is also a great opportunity to explore Lachung’s elements like the age-old monasteries and sanctuaries that make Lachung what it truly is.

Yumthang Valley in Lachung is home to the Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary, popularly known as the “Valley of Flowers.” The sanctuary is draped in varied hues in July as the rhododendrons bloom unabashedly during this time. There are around 40 species of rhododendrons present here. The various other trees like aconites and poppies further enhance the beauty of this sanctuary.
