Sivasagar is a place with a rich history and heritage in the state of Assam and in the entire state of Assam Sivasagar which is also referred to as Sibsagar is one of the top historical attractions. The Sivasagar has a number of historical monuments which were mostly built during the Ahom Kingdom; the city was named after a 200 years old lake Sivasagar Lake which is also one of the major tourist attractions of Sivasagar. The capital of Ahom Dynasty from the year 1699 to 1788 was Sivasagar and during that time Sivasagar was known as Rangpur. During the time of Ahom Dynasty many forts, temples and many places were constructed which are now the major tourist attractions. The must-visit historical places of Sivasagar are Talatal Ghar, Vishnu Dol, Siva Dol Temple, Sivasagar Lake, Pani Dihang Wildlife Sanctuary and many more.

All kinds of travellers like nature admirers, wildlife buffs, and history lovers would definitely love to visit this place since the place has something to offer to all kinds of travellers. One of the major attractions of Sivasagar is Sivasagar Lake or it is also known as Borpukhuri which is the biggest attractions of this town, it is an artificial lake which was built by Queen Ambika who was the wife of King Shiva Singha. The Sivasagar Lake was built in the year of 1734. The Sivasagar Lake covers an area of about 130 to 257 acres and it is surrounded by deep earthen moats. On the bank of the Sivasagar Lake, there are three temples which are also known as Dol in the Assamese language, the temples or the Dols situated are Vishnu Dol, Siva Dol and Devi Dol.

Many numbers of tourists visit this lake from almost all part of the country and it is the main attractions for many devotees. The Sivasagar Lake is one of the major attractions which lie in the heart of the city Sivasagar. The Sivasagar Lake is also the second largest lake in the entire state of Assam. The best time to visit Sivasagar is during the winter season since during winter season the weather remains cool and pleasant.
