How to reach: The nearest airport to Pelling is Bagdogra airport (139 km) in Siliguri. You can hire a cab from Bagdogra to reach Pelling.  

Mawlynnong Village, Meghalaya

If you wish to plan a getaway post lockdown, why not spend a week in the cleanest village of Asia. Mawlynnong comes under one of the best places to visit in the Northeast and for all the right reasons. It's not just the cleanliness title that it celebrates but also has about 100 percent literacy rate and a strong women empowerment movement. With its greenery and exquisite biodiversity, the Mawlynnong Village in Meghalaya is a perfect place to sit back and detox yourself from urban pollution. You’ll find some nice homestays that allow you to stay close to nature and have a lovely time with the locals.

How to reach: Nearest airport from Mawlynnong is located in Shillong, at a distance of 78 km. Taxies from here are easily available to Mawlynnong Village.

Takdha, Darjeeling 

Expect misty mountains, cosy weather, natural trails passing through pine forests, and rolling tea gardens on hill slopes. Takdah was formerly a British cantonment area, which is why there are many old British bungalows harking back to the colonial era. Few of these bungalows have been converted into guesthouses. These guesthouses will transport you to a different time. There are several viewpoints and trekking routes near the area.

How to reach: Bagdogra airport in Siliguri the nearest airport at a distance of 82 km. Taxies from where are easily available to reach Takdah. 

Dzukou Valley, Nagaland

Also known as the “valley of flowers,” Dzukou Valley is a hidden paradise of Nagaland. The valley is a breathtakingly beautiful masterpiece of nature’s handiwork that more rightfully belongs in a fairytale book or fantasy novel. No doubt it is one of the best places to visit in Northeast India. There are natural caves to explore in this area, which will definitely give you that much-needed adrenaline rush. 

You can set your base at Viswema Village where you will find plenty of homestay options. You can take up a 17 km trek from Viswema Village to Dzukou, which will take you 5-6 hours. The route is very scenic with bright green grass valleys and is highly recommended.

How to reach: Dimapur Airport, which is around 74 km away from Kohima, is the nearest airport to Dzukou valley. From here, you can either take a bus or a cab from Kohima to Viswema Village. 

Ziro Valley, Arunachal Pradesh

Apart from the layered landscape of rice fields, bamboo groves, and pine forests, their unique agricultural practice has attracted the attention of many, due to which it has been shortlisted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ziro is also known for its striking wildlife treasures; the “Talley Wildlife Sanctuary,” which is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the town, serves home to the elusive clouded leopard.   

The love for music in this town is boundless, which is what gave birth to the famous Ziro Music Festival back in 2012. It is one of the best outdoor music festivals in India that celebrates music and people.

There are limited lodging options available in Ziro Valley. You can also opt for camping if you are looking for a unique experience.

How to reach: The nearest airport from Ziro is at Jorhat, Assam which is 98 km away. From here you can hire a cab to Ziro. 

Jampui Hills, Tripura 

Famous for its wonderful Orange Festival, Jampui Hills is the highest hill range in Tripura. The excellent climatic condition, green forests, beautiful orange orchards, and views of the rising and setting sun are all the right ingredients for a great vacation recipe. Vanghmun village a.k.a. the cleanest village of Tripura can be your base for your vacation in Jampui hills. There are options of good homestays to choose from in Vanghmum.
