Durpin Dara Hill is another hill which offers a magnificent view of the Chola Range of Sikkim, the town of Kalimpong, the Teesta River, the valleys and the snow-clad Himalayan ranges of West Sikkim. At a distance the Jelepla Pass is also seen from Durpin Dara Hill. A golf course is also present. The Durpin Dara Hill is above the sea level of approximately 4501 feet and it is located in the south-west of the town. Durpin Dara Hill is a peaceful getaway that one would cherish for long. A must visit even though it's a bit away from the town. Best way after reaching Kalimpong is to hire a local cab and go around seeing places rather than searching for places and parking as roads are narrow at many a places and roadside parking makes things harder.
The roads towards Durpin Dara Hill are also in very good condition though it is a narrow road but it is good. Atop the hill sits the Zang Dhok Palri Monastery which was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976. Due to the international border the Indian Army has a major base atop the Durpin Dara Hill and Indian Army has also constructed a helipad near the monastery. The monastery is beautifully constructed and Durpin Dara is popularly known for the monastery it is also referred to as the Durpin monastery colloquially by the tourists and the cab drivers alike. It is a beautiful hill with the monastery atop, one will really enjoy visiting this place. Since the meaning of Durpin is binocular and the Durpin Dara Hill really offers a bird’s eye view of the Kalimpong and its neighboring places. Durpin Dara Hill is one of the must-visit tourist attractions of Kalimpong.
