Assam is famous not only for its delicious tea, national parks, and silk but is also known for several eco-camp sites. There are a total of 4 running eco-camps for now, but more are emerging; the Chandubi Jungle Camp is one of these four. Chandubi Jungle Camp is located in Guwahati and it is not limited to a particular area. This camp extends till Joramukhria Village and one has to cross the Chandubi Lake to reach the site.

Kaushik Das of Guwahati has been working in the tourism sector since 2011 and believes in promoting various unexplored places and rural areas in Northeast India. The Chandubi Jungle Camp was started in 2015 and he has been playing one of the main roles in the campsite.

With the help of the local community in Chandubi, Kaushik has been engaging visitors with numerous activities at Chandubi Jungle Camp such as boating, fishing, angling, hiking, trekking, forest walks, camping, and cycling. Visitors are also entertained with traditional dance shows.

Visitors can stay at local traditional huts in the campsite and feast on a buffet spread of delicious culinary delights. Food is served traditionally on banana leaves placed over the plates. “Everyone who visits the Chandubi Jungle Camp in Assam expresses their joy and happiness of being able to take a break from a monotonous life. And when they share their wonderful experiences with us, it feels really great,” says Kaushik.

Boating and Fishing

The Chandubi Lake is a few minutes’ walk away from the camping site, and the lake views amid tall trees and natural surroundings make it worth visiting. Visitors can enjoy a 15-min wooden boat ride. The boats carry a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 9 people. People who are interested in angling and fishing can also take part in such activities here. “The chief feature of this lake is that a natural lagoon has been formed here, and the place is really calm and peaceful” explains Kaushik.

Forest Walk

You can also visit the Loharghat Reserve Forest near the camp and get lost ‘purposely’ in this beautiful natural jungle. This forest walk is also ideal for bird watchers. “You cannot resist the charm of the forest here. Once you walk through these forests you will see birds flying and singing songs. It is a photographer’s heaven,” adds Kaushik.

Cycling

It is a unique experience to ride cycles through the awesome village trails and on the banks of the lake. “There are 5 routes available for cycling in the village and anyone can indulge in this activity whether you are an amateur or a professional cyclist,” says Kaushik. The routes are easy to moderate and start and end at the campsite. Interested visitors are provided with all the necessary equipment like helmets and medical kits.

Traditional Shows

The dance shows at Chandubi Jungle Camp take place during the evening, and the locals showcase the traditional Rabha dance. However, the visitors have to pre-book a show.
