Mementso Lake is located 60 kms eastwards Gangtok, Sikkim at 13000 feet above sea level. It is a mountain lake lies on the way to the Jelepla Pass and is situated at a distance of 20 kms ahead of the Tsomgo Lake. The runoff water from the lake forms the source of river Rangpo chu, a tributary of the Teesta River. The lake is noted for its trout, and has a large fish farm nearby with a guesthouse. The waters of the lake are sourced by melting snow in summer and the monsoon in the wet season.
Mementso or Memencho or Menmecho Lake is situated at the Old Silk Route near Tukla Valley. It looks awesome from distance and also from up close. It is a stunningly beautiful lake with snow cover from early winter to late spring. It is surrounded by a rich, varied forest and some rather interesting rock formations. Fishing is allowed at Menmecho Lake but you have to obtain a permit from Gangtok and ascertain the availability of fishing gear.

Accommodation for the visitors is available at the dak bungalow and tourist lodge near the lake. Foreigners have to take permission from Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi to visit here. Indians can book a cab through any registered Travel Agency and it will arrange the permits from Gangtok Permit Office.
One can have a trek in nearby area when residing at the location. The best time to visit Memencho Lake is from September to December, when the skies are clear and roads are accessible. From mid December, the area start having snowfall and till end of the month roads get blocked.
