Hangu Lake is located about 14 kms ahead of Tsomgo Lake on the way to New Baba Harbhajan Singh Temple. Hangu is a swampy typical Wetland area suitable for variety of Avifauna. Located at 13000 feet above sea level, it is nearly a kilometer long.
Fed by glacial waters, the lake reflects the gloom of the neighboring mountains. Tucked within sterile mountain slopes, strewn with rocks and pebbles and devoid of any flora, the Hangu Lake seems to be placed on extraterrestrial surface.
Hangu word means Duck in local language. The migratory Golden Ducks (Rudy Shelduck) come here between the months of November and February. The advent of winter brings flocks of migratory birds from across the Himalayas to the shallow waters of Hangu Lake.
The Alpine Adventure Park conceptualized by the Kupup Village Development and Tourism Cooperative Society Limited (KVDTCS) started here on October 8, 2017. The adventure park on the banks of Hangu Lake has been one of the new tourist attractions beyond Tsomgo Lake and Nathu La. Paddle boating is available in Hangu Lake at a cost of Rs 100 per head with the maximum occupancy per boat being 4.
