The food of Mizoram is quite different from the rest of India. Mizo food is healthy and simple, using very little oil to prepare dishes. The staple food of Mizoram is rice, and the inhabitants of Mizoram prefer to use mustard oil as a cooking medium. Non-vegetarian delicacies are a must at every meal in Mizoram, with fish being a favourite.

Here’s a look at 5 food items of Mizoram that aptly represent Mizo cuisine:

1. Bai

Bai is a local favourite in Mizoram. The key factor of this food dish is the inclusion of different herbs and spices. The main ingredients include pork, bamboo shoots, and steamed vegetables. Bai is easily available in lots of places all over Mizoram. It can be taken as a starter.

2. Vawksa Rep

This is yet another popular food dish in Mizoram. Pork is the main star of this food dish. The pork is beautifully infused with some flavoured herbs and smoked. The meat is finally cut into cubes and ready to eat.

3. Bamboo Shoot Fry

It looks crispy from the outside but is soft and warm from the inside. It makes for an ideal snack with tea. It generally tastes a little sweet because of the presence of bananas.
