Garbage cans and bins in each room should also be emptied when the occupants leave the unit. Bathrooms and the kitchen should be cleaned especially floors and other surfaces. The owner usually supplies mops, brooms, vacuum cleaners and other cleaning supplies for the upkeep of the house. The renters have the option of getting whatever cleaning supplies they prefer and they can bring it out with them. Even the placement of the furniture and other things in and around the vacation rentals should be kept in their proper place. Any changes made may be charged to the renter.

Scheduled time of arrival and departure should also be kept, especially the departure. Many of these domiciles have caretakers that come according to prior arrangements made through travel agencies and other establishments that manage the units. A deposit is usually made before the occupants enter and for them to receive it back, everything should be in order according to what is written in the agreement or contract. Damages incurred should be replaced or repaid according to the current market prices. The caretaker usually welcomes the guests and gives a short tour of the place, especially if it is a bit bigger than the average house or if there are special conditions attached to it

Guests at the vacation rentals should give notice regarding the presence of children and pets. Some owners of these domiciles want to be aware of the number of people who are there as well as children and pets. There are also clauses regarding parties and grilling anywhere in or around the domicile. Parties may need special permission especially if it is expected to be noisy or fairly large. Grilling may or may not be permitted, depending on the rules that is in place for the area where the unit is. Some domiciles allow grilling and barbecues in specific places designed for grilling. Some housing establishments actually have communal grillers.
