When you're just getting started as a golfer you might be overwhelmed by all the options that are available for beginners when it comes to golf equipment. Many things get advertised as perfect for new golfers, but many of them fall short of actually being ideal for beginners. Picking the right pieces of equipment that will help you build a solid foundation for your golf game will leave you better off than spending money on equipment that won't help you much with your game.

The first thing you need to invest in for golf is a good pair of golf shoes. You'll be spending a lot of time on your feet as you play a game of golf so make sure the shoes you purchase fit your feet and are comfortable to wear. Your first few games may be uncomfortable as you break in your shoes but you can minimize this by wearing them off the course or to the driving range first. Check with the courses you will play most often to be sure that the spikes on your shoes are appropriate. Soft spike shoes, for example, are required at most course in the U.S.

Golf balls are also a good idea to purchase when it comes to beginner golf equipment. When you first start playing, odds are you'll lose plenty of balls. It takes time to find the ball that's a good match for your style of golf and your needs as a golfer. One good suggestion to consider as a beginning golfer looking for the right equipment is to buy recycled golf balls. You can find large packages of mixed brands that have been recovered from water hazards. Buying recycled balls gives you a chance to try various brands to find the right fit for a fraction of the cost.

You will also need to invest in a decent divot tool. While it won't help improve your game, golf is still a gentleman's sport. Golf etiquette dictates that you repair any damage caused to the green by your ball so subsequent players are impaired by dents and clumps you've left behind on the green.

Start small when you buy starter golf equipment. Learn more about the game and practice before buying more expensive pieces one at a time to build a set that will help you achieve your goals on the course. This is the best way to get the best value out of your golf equipment when your first start golfing.
