Chayatal is situated in the Western Part of the Sikkim; the village is just 32 km away from a well-known hamlet named Pelling. A lake near the Mahatma Sirijunga Statue is now a quaint lake amidst cardamom forest and terraces paddy fields. Boating facilities are also available during the summer season. Chaya Lake is the major attraction of this attractive small town. Being an offbeat destination, Chaaya Taal and its scenic beauty are still untouched. The waterfall, Monasteries, Dense Forests, Rhododendrons, Red Pandas, Waterparks and the various species of Himalayan birds are what makes an abode captivating among the travel enthusiasts. One can also visit Kaluk which is a small village located in the remote western Sikkim Himalayan Hills, near the West Sikkim capital of Gyalshing. Khangchendzonga, the world's third-highest peak, is visible from Kaluk. It is one of the windiest places in Sikkim and noted for destinations like the Durga Mandir, Rinchenpong Gumba and Meggi Dara. Along with the villages of Hee Bermiok and Rinchenpong Kaluk forms the entire western face of Ridge along the Kalej Khola. Since Chayatal is one of the offbeat destinations of Sikkim and hence the option of accommodation is very limited with basic amenities, there are very few homestays offering an amazing view of the surroundings.
The best time to visit Chayatal is during the spring season which normally starts from the month of April to May. The best way to reach Chayatal is via road which is the only option from the nearest airport Bagdogra or the nearest railway station New Jalpaiguri of West Bengal. The distance from both the airport and the railway station is approximately 140 kilometres which are around 5 to 6 hours drive depending upon the road condition.
