A small town Chalsa is located on the foothills of the Himalayas in the Dooars or Duars region in the Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal and West Bengal is one of the states in India. Chalsa is also known as Chalsa Mahabari and it is a census town in the Matiali CD block. The small town is beautifully surrounded by tea gardens, hills, forest and rivers and it is one of the beautiful destinations known for its natural beauty. There are two national parks Gorumara National Park and Chapramani Wildlife Sanctuary and the small town Chalsa is beautifully surrounded by two Sanctuaries and national parks. There are the number of collections of elephants and a rhino nearby forest of Chalsa and Chalsa makes an ideal location with all modern facilities to make the base for exploring the Dooars natural and cultural beauty. The Gorumara National Parks and the Chapramani Wildlife Sanctuary is also a home to exotic wildlife, there are numbers of plants and trees inside the National park and the Sanctuary. Chalsa is actually a holiday destination where many locals and tourists visit the place. Chalsa is a very good offbeat destination, people who love exploring offbeat destinations and are adventurous then they should actually visit Chalsa as a holiday destination once in a lifetime. Chalsa can be a base for those looking to explore surrounding offbeat, as well as, popular tourist destinations such as Bindu, Dooars, Jhalong, and Jaldhaka, amongst the others. The hamlet of Chalsa is also known for its weekly market at Mangalbari Haat and is a major stopover for buses plying to other regions in Dooars. The best time to visit Chalsa is during winter season and post-monsoon season. The best way to reach Chalsa is by road which is via Siliguri. It takes almost one to two hours to reach Chalsa from Siliguri. The nearest railway station is Bagdogra airport of Siliguri and the distance from Bagdogra airport to Chalsa is approximately 60 kilometres. There are various mode of transportation to reach Chalsa from Siliguri, one can take a bus or a shared taxi which are available in Siliguri or can hire a private taxi or can self-drive. As Siliguri of West Bengal is the nearest major city with a very good connectivity with other cities and states hence travelling by any mode of transportation like train, air or by road is advisable. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri of Siliguri and the distance from New Jalpaiguri (NJP) to Chalsa is approximately 58 kilometres only.
