Chandubi Lake is a natural lake in Assam situated at a distance of approximately around 60 km from Guwahati the major city of Assam. The Chandubi Lake or commonly known as Chandubi Beel is located in Kamrup district which is one of the districts of Assam and was formed due to an earthquake in the year of 1897. The area is covered by deep forest and small villages. It is a natural sightseeing and picnic spot and attracts migratory birds during winter. This is an ideal spot for nature lovers and adventure seekers and makes an ideal day get away from Guwahati. The visitors can do some activity in the Chandubi Lake like boating and bird watching. Boating facilities is provided by the locals on their wooden rowboats. Each boating trip is as the boatman takes visitors through the length and breadth of the lake to explore while acting as a guide narrating the folklores associated with the lake.

Boating is a good opportunity for bird lovers as it’s the best place to watch waterbirds during the winter months. Chandubi Lake is one of the beautiful lakes in Assam and it is one of the must-visit tourist spots to experience the natural beauty of the northeastern state of Assam. Before the Chandubi Lake was formed it was the hilly area with five mountains as per the locals but after 1897 due to an earthquake, the Chandubi hill turns into Chandubi Lake. The word Chandubi is derived from a Khasi language where a word Chand means five and a word Dubi means sinking. The area covered by a Chandubi Lake is almost 448 hectare and as deep as 8 meters. The Chandubi Lake is beautifully surrounded by the small villages, deep forests, and the tea gardens. It is also very popular as a picnic spot among the locals. The lake offers fishing and rowing in the lake for visitors. The nature lovers and the adventure lovers can also go for a trekking and camping since the tourism has built few resorts in and around the area. One can go for a village walk or to understand the culture and the lifestyle in the tribal village which is on the other side of the Chandubi Lake. Every year in the month of January the local people celebrate the Chandubi festival and it is a weeklong festival where the people perform their traditional dance along with several traditional food stalls. The best time to visit the Chandubi Lake is from October to March.
