Punakha is known as the warmest valley in Bhutan and located at an elevation of 1200 meter above sea level. In 1955, it was the capital of Bhutan which then got shifted to Thimphu. To reach Punakha from Thimphu, it is about 72 km away and takes about 3 hours. In Punakha rice is grown as the main crop along the valley of two main rivers of Bhutan, the Pho Chu and Mo Chu.
