Paragliding in Darjeeling was started in the year 2006. Only tandem flies are permitted for tourists in Darjeeling. One can see the magnificent views of the snowcapped mountains like Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Kabru, Mt. Pandim, and Mt. Siniolchu while flying over the sky. There are two routes of paragliding in this British colonial based town. One is the famous from Saint Pauls to Lebong route and other is from Tukvar Tea Garden to Jaumney. Both routes have the fly duration of approx to 10 to 25 minutes, depending upon the weather and wind speed. The average time of fly is mostly between 12 to 15 minutes.
(1) Saint Pauls to Lebong Route
The glider firstly has to go till Saint Pauls in Jaldapara hill. There is a take off point here. This route allows you to witness the aerial view of architectural marvels of the main town and city’s breathtaking nature escapes before landing on the public ground of Lebong. During the flight, you will be pleased by the enchanting views of the Darjeeling peaks and its rich flora.

(2) Tukvar Tea Garden to Jaumney
This paragliding route starts from the hilltop of Tukvar Tea Garden. This route offers the panoramic views of dense, mesmerizing tea gardens with a white river flowing alongside, Himalayan wildlife and lush forests. The fly makes a soothing feel and a treat to your eyes. The gliders land on Jaumney grounds.

The best time to opt for paragliding in Darjeeling is in fine weather, which commences from April to June and again from October to November.
Tips for paragliders
Glider should to be fit and has weight between 45 kgs to 85 kgs.
Not recommended for people with asthma, anxiety or heart disorders.
Paragliding is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. It is usually closed during winter months due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Glider should inspect and monitor all the paragliding equipment before the take off.
