Imphal Zoological Gardens is located at the foot of the pine hillocks at Iroisemba on the Imphal-Kanchup Road. It is situated at a distance of about 7km from the main city of Imphal, the Manipur Zoological garden is a must-visit place if you are on a trip to Imphal.

It is one of the best places where one can get a good close up view of the Sangai deer which is rare and very beautiful and native to Manipur. Sangai deer is only found in Manipur and it is an endangered animal. One can also view the Hoolock gibbons which are very noisy gang in the zoo but they are the only tail less primates of India and really endangered. The bird cages often house temporary inmates that are injured in the wild and are released on recovery. On the whole the place is clean and well maintained and an educative experience for those seriously interested in nature.

Not to be missed is an opportunity to see the graceful brow antlered deer one of the rarest species in the world, in sylvan surroundings.

Housing more than 400 species of faunas, the zoo will charm any wildlife lover. Of all the species of animals in the zoo, many species of birds are also kept in the zoo. Apart from the faunas, if you are in the mood for some exploration, the small hills near the zoo are perfect for a tour of the pine-forested region. Before you head out from your hotel, pack some lunch as these hillocks near the zoo, are perfect for a picnic. Once one will be there after the zoo sightseeing one can nicely sit somewhere and enjoy your lunch. This experience will surely make the trip memorable.
