Longtharai is one of the must-visit places in the Dhalai District of Tripura and it is about 7 km from Ambassa at Srinibash Para in Kathalbari VC. The temple is one of the most popular tourist spots and the temple lies about 102 kilometres away from Agartala the capital city of Tripura. In Kokborok language, the name of Lord Shiva is Longtharai according to the Tribal dialect of Tripura. The word Longtharai also means a Deep Vally and it is believed that while returning from Mount Kailash Lord Shiva rested in this area for some time in the hill of Longtharai. Since he is believed to have stepped foot here, this area became famous and a temple was soon constructed. To reach Longtharai temple one need to do a short trek from Longtharai and the place offers a great view of the surrounding area. Every year during the occasion of Shiv Ratri annual Mela is organized by the devotees of Lord Shiva at the temple and hundreds of devotees visit the place to offer a prayer along with other non-devotees. Many people from many places visit the holy place. Today the temple and the adjoining hill area are highly regarded and people from all over visit the Longtharai Mandir. On the way to temple a local flower Khumpi blooms on the roadside which makes the journey more beautiful and mesmerizing. The whole area around the Longtharai temple is worth to visit. One must definitely visit the beautiful place to witness the natural beauty that seems to be tucked away from the world. One can book a cab or take a means of public transport to reach Dhalai from Agartala and the drive from Agartala to the Dhalai district headquarters Ambassa takes about 3 hours. The distance from Agartala to Dhalai is almost 90 kilometres.
