In Kokborok language, the name of Lord Shiva is Longtharai according to the Tribal dialect of Tripura. The word Longtharai also means a Deep Vally and it is believed that while returning from Mount Kailash Lord Shiva rested in this area for some time in the hill of Longtharai. Since he is believed to have stepped foot here, this area became famous and a temple was soon constructed.
