Many people nowadays are beginning to stray away from travel agencies when booking a holiday or short trip in their own company. Whilst travel agencies can be a great help and offer many advantages to those of us travelling abroad, when staying in your own country you are strongly advised to do your planning yourself. When travelling abroad, it is of course a long way home if you have chosen the wrong guest house or hotel and therefore, a travel agency is your best bet as they will have dealt with these companies before and know their track record with other clients.
However, when you are staying in your own country, you do not want to be limited to the things that the travel agency provide for you within your package and therefore, are better off planning your trip by yourself. If a travel agency booked you into a hotel that you didn't like when you arrived, there is little or even no chance at all that you would be able to change it at that late a stage. However, if you had booked your own hotel and were dissatisfied with its services you could pay for the night/nights that you had spent there and then simply find another. You can do this by yourself and in your own time without being either rushed or delayed by the travel agency in question had you used one.
Also, whilst a travel agency may have special arrangements and agreements in place with a particular guest house or hotel, there will more than likely still be others around that same area at an even cheaper price. If you still wish to use one of these companies to book your trip with, ensure that you do an adequate amount of research before hand to check on what exactly is available in that area before you agree to anything with the travel agency. If you decide against booking your holiday with a travel agency you should always take extra care and precautions when booking anything. Also, once everything is sorted and finalised, you should call each place such as your guest house and the place you got your tickets from and double check and confirm everything a couple of weeks before you are due to arrive. This ensures that everything is dealt with properly and you are not going to suffer any bad happenings whilst away!
