On the way to Dawki the first and the must stop place is Elephant falls which is locally known as Ka Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew, which translates to "the three - step waterfall". Elephant Falls is 12 km from busy town of Shillong in East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya. The unique part of Elephant Falls is that, it is a two-tier waterfall set in the dingles of the rocks. These curved falls is very eye-catching beauty and the green vegetation surrounding makes it a perfect picnic spot. This beautiful fall is made of three smaller falls and the combined stream adorns the fern-covered rocks below. It can be visited round the year. Monsoon is the best time to visit Elephant Falls, as water current is good and surrounding greenery adds the value to location. There are small shops where you can buy the souvenirs.

The distance from Elephant waterfalls to Dawki is approximately 2 hrs drive. On approaching Dawki is the Umngot River, the venue of the annual boat race held during March - April at Umsyiem. The Umngot River is the natural boundary between Ri Pnar or Jaintia Hills with Hima Khyrim of Khasi hills over which is a single span suspension bridge was constructed.

How to reach Dawki
The nearest airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport of Guwahati, Assam and the nearest railway station is Guwahati railway station. From both the airport and the railway station you have to take a reserved cab or other public transportations to reach Shillong. From Shillong you have to take a reserve cab to reach the destination.
Best time to visit Dawki
The best time to visit Dawki is throughout the year but it is better not to travel during monsoon season as there may be a chance of road blockage due to landslide as the road to Dawki is slightly small.
