8 Things to do in and around Kaziranga National Park

The Kaziranga National Park can be called the shining jewel of Assam. Mostly famous for the one-horned rhino, this place has so much to offer its visitors like trekking, elephant and jeep safaris, bird watching, taking a tour of coffee and tea plantations, watching the culture of a tribal village, etc. The list of activities that this place offers goes on and on, ensuring there is never a dull moment in your trip to this park.

Here is a detailed list of things you can do at Kaziranga National Park.

(1) Go on a Jeep Safari

A great way to experience the massive terrain and get a glimpse of the animals is by going on a jeep safari. The jeeps cover most part of the park. This will give you a surreal experience with views of the dense forest and animals.

(2) Tour the Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park

The Kaziranga National Orchid and Biodiversity Park is situated at a distance of about 2 km from Kohora Chariali. Covering a large area, it houses nearly 500 variations of orchids. They look absolutely stunning and are a treat to the eye. Apart from orchids, you will also come across many species of leafy vegetables, cane, and various types of bamboo. 

The orchid park also has a restaurant where you get to taste the authentic Assamese thali. Your trip is going to be incomplete without spending a beautiful evening here where you can watch a cultural program organised especially for tourists. If you have heard about the famous Bihu dance of Assam, then this is where you get to watch it being performed. 

(3) Enjoy Elephant Safari Rides

When in Kaziranga, an elephant safari is a must! It is the best way to explore the wilderness of Kaziranga. You can view wild animals from close vicinity. 

There are many elephant safari ranges like Bagori, Agoratoli, Burapahar or Ghoraketi Range, Kohora or Central Range, and Panbari Reserved Forest. Don't forget to take your camera as you will encounter many opportunities to click some amazing photographs of flora and fauna. 

(4) Explore the Tribal Villages

While visiting any place, it is important to gain an insight into the culture, lifestyle, and practices of the local people. There are many tribal villages near Kaziranga, and visiting one of them will give you a glimpse of how people live there. Most of these people are engaged in handicrafts as a means of earning their livelihood. It is amazing to see their artwork and creativity. You might also come across shops that sell these handicrafts. 

(5) Engage in Bird Watching

Sounds interesting, right? Who doesn't love to watch beautiful birds flying up high in the sky? 

Did you know that the Kaziranga National Park is one of the best places that offer great bird views? You can call it a bird's paradise as various species like the pelican, the Great Adjutant Stork, and the Whistling Teal can be seen in this area. A huge number of birds gather in the area, and a bird watcher can spend hours watching them. 

(6) Visit the Kakochang Waterfall  

The Kakochang Waterfall is located at a distance of 14 km from Kaziranga National Park. Make sure to include this waterfall in your itinerary to Kaziranga. The view of the sparkling water and the calm and peaceful surroundings will satisfy your soul. If you want to visit a serene place away from the hustle and bustle of city life, then this is where you should be! 

(7) Visit the Tea Estates  

If you are in Assam, then how can you not visit the famous tea estates of this place and take a sip of their tea?! Although there are many tea estates worth visiting, you can visit the ones located around Kaziranga National Park. There are a few stores that offer authentic tea from Assam that you purchase for yourself and also gift them to your family and friends.
