Tezpur is very close to my heart as I have spent 5 beautiful years of my life there. Moreover, what makes it even more special is the fact that I met my fiancé in this city of eternal romance.

Located on the banks of the Brahmaputra, Tezpur is marked as one of the most popular destinations in Assam. This place is filled with delightful landscapes, natural beauty, rich history, heritage, and architecture. The historical spots located in this town speak for its incredible beauty.

Let’s take a look at some of the spectacular spots that you should visit in and around Tezpur.

5 Incredible Places to Visit in Tezpur

(1) Agnigarh

Agnigarh Hill attracts visitors not just for its scenic views but also the history behind it. It is a small hill with has statues of different gods and goddesses along with the statues of Usha and Aniruddha built there, which draws the attention of tourists. Looking back at history, Aniruddha and Usha were deeply in love with each other but this relationship was not accepted by Usha's father Banasura. Thus, Banasura held Usha captive on this hill.  To make sure that Usha can’t move from the hill, he created a ring of fire as a boundary. If you stand on top of the hill, you will get a wonderful view of the town. What's amazing is that the mighty Brahmaputra River can be seen if we stand on top of the hill.

Best time to visit: Agnigarh can be visited during any season. However, summers can be really hot here.

(2) Bamuni Hills

Are you someone who loves to explore ancient and archaeological ruins? If yes, then Tezpur is the place for you! According to historical facts, the ruins present here were that of a temple that belonged to the 9th-10th century. The talent of the artisans is clearly visible through the cravings and artwork that has been done on the walls and pillars. The government has taken proper steps to preserve these ruins. Some of them have been taken to Chitralekha Udyan, which is located inside the town. You can also visit the Bhairavi temple, which is situated near Bamuni hills.

Best time to visit: The perfect time to visit Bamuni hills is during the winters. However, you can visit it anytime of the year.

(3) Chitralekha Udyan

Chitralekha Udyan, also popularly known as Cole Park, is a well-known tourist spot in Tezpur. It offers amazing views, surrounded by greenery and interesting structures. After the sun sets, the whole park sparkles with artificial lights, which makes it look mesmerizing. The name "Chitralekha Udyan" has been recently given to the park after a popular character found in the Aniruddha-Usha love story.  There are many fascinating things to see inside the park, including a jet-fighter plane, a Valiant MIG 21, and a huge Indian map that is made on the ground. The specialty of the jet is that it was the first supersonic Indian Air Force aircraft that could travel at Mach 2. Recreational options like boating and bumper cars are available for kids as well as adults. The park is also a great place for couples to spend leisure time while enjoying the serene beauty.

(4) Da Parbatia

Apart from Bamuni hills, if you want to encounter classic examples of Assamese architecture and art, Da Parbatia is the place to visit. The ruins of the door of Da Parbatia temple shows the intricate art done by the specimen and is the oldest sculptural art in Assam.
