What are you supposed to do, trapped inside all winter long? The best thing to do is not to be bored! You can plan ahead for a fun day in or get out and about enjoying some new experiences, like:
#1 Get crafty. When the weather is fierce outside, it’s a great time to stay in the house and do crafts. Depending on your children’s ages, this could be something relatively simple like playdough to a more complex project that takes a better part of the day. You may just discover you have a budding artist on your hands!
#2 Sign them up for a STEM program in NYC. STEM programs for kids in NYC are a great way for kids and tweens to enjoy themselves without watching television or playing video games. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math. No, this won’t be anything like math class! Your child will get to do things like solve a mystery with forensics, build a robot, engineer a city, learn coding to create an app, and so much more. And of course, they’ll be making friends and boosting their self confidence the entire time. You may just find them asking to go to other STEM programs for kids in NYC even when the weather isn’t cold!
#3 Go to the zoo. As long as it isn’t blizzard-like conditions outdoors, you can still get out and about. You may not love when it’s snowy outside, but many zoo animals sure do. It is a completely different experience than visiting the zoo during the summer! You’ll get to see the animals hop around and play in the snow. Your kids won’t believe their eyes!
#4 Bake, bake, bake! There’s just something about cold weather that makes you want to bake a lot of yummy goodies. Spend the day creating a feast! While cookies are always a favorite, you can also do homemade pretzels or donuts if your cooking skills are a little more advanced. If you want to avoid sweets, work together to make a big batch of soup. From cutting the vegetables to measuring to stirring, there’s something for every age group to do to keep busy.
This winter, keep your kids busy so you won't repeatedly hear "I'm bored" and they won't be staring at their screens for three months straight. Sign them up for a class, go to the zooComputer Technology Articles, or even make soup from scratch. You may just find yourself enjoying the experiences too!
