There are important things to consider before buying a tent, here is a list of things to consider before you make your purchase.

Weatherproof

The capability of your tent to stand up to the most severe test of bad weather is one of the most important aspects to know before buying a tent, you should always make sure the tent has a hydrostatic head rating among 2500mm and 3000mm.

Obviously when buying a tent the higher the rating the better protection you will get when stuck in bad weather, there is nothing worse than being out in the great outdoors in bad weather with a tent that leaks.

Tent weight

The weight of the tent should also be a major factor when thinking of buying a tent, if you are expecting doing a lot of hiking on your camping trip then you should make sure the tent is as light as possible to cut down on the weight you are going to be carrying around.

The average two person tent weighs in at around the 3 kg mark, this is an acceptable weight to carry when hiking in the mountains.

Remember you will be carrying other items beside your tent so try to keep the weight down as much as possible when buying a tent, being able to roll up to a small roll is also very helpful to the hiker, this helps to keep the size of your back pack down which is very handy when trekking up those narrow paths.

Separate ground sheet or all in one

Opting for buying a tent with a separate ground sheet can be a bad idea and lead to problems in bad weather, it is far better buying a tent that comes with a ground sheet attached.

You should also look at the manufactures information on the tent and make sure it says it has taped seam this stops the water from running through the holes in the seams where the tent has been stitched together.

This also has another effect of draught proofing the tent, which is another consideration to have before buying a tent.

Cost of tents

The cost of tents can vary considerably and there are many different styles and makes out there to choose from when buying a tent, but keep these things we have mentioned in mind and you can be confident that the tent you buy will be extremely capable of doing the job it was designed for.

You might think of buying a tent that is really cheap of which there are plenty around to choose from, advice would be that paying that little bit extra to get the right tent is worth it in the long run.

So choosing your camping tents wisely will help to give you the confidence in your camping equipment you need to enjoy the great outdoorsScience Articles, remember the tent is the only protection you have from the elements so making sure you get high quality when buying a tent is vital to the success of your great outdoor adventure.
