Summer is almost over and with fall and winter right around the corner it means that before you know it, the holidays will be here and so will the good food. One of the difficulties that many people face every year is eating all of the extra food and treats that are available around the holidays and staying in shape. If you’ve been working hard to get in shape and don’t want to lose your progress, here are 3 simple things that you can do to keep your figure over the holidays:

1.  Do a Turkey Trot- One of the greatest ways to keep your weight off during the holidays is to keep yourself busy with some fitness goals. Most cities will have a Turkey Trot and if you are looking for something to keep your mind busy during all of the festivities, training for a race can do just the trick. Make it a goal of yours to run some sort of long distance race and to continually train so that you can burn off the extra calories that you eat.

2.  Limit servings to one- There is no arguing that the holidays will bring some of the tastiest food that you will see all year. With so many delicious things put in front of your face on the table throughout the holidays it is really easy to over-eat and consume more than you need. One of the things that you can do to make sure that you keep the weight off during the holidays is to limit yourself to only one serving of food at dinner time. Even though you may not feel full at the time you should do your best to stop after one serving so that you give the food in your stomach a chance to register with your brain that you are full. This will help you to stop before you consume too much and can mean keeping extra pounds off.

3.  Stick strong to your exercise- With family and friends coming over and extra time off work it can be really tempting to just sit on the couch, watch a game, and skip out on your workouts. What you really need to do to make sure that you don’t put on extra poundage through the holidays is stick strong with your exercise routines. You want to stay dedicated to going to the gym even if it isn’t convenient. Make it a point to head to the gym or perform your workouts multiple times a week so that you don’t see the ill effects of over-eating and under-exercising.
