Location Overview:

Cradled in the eastern Himalayas, Sikkim is home to Mt. Khangchendzonga, the 3rd highest peak in the world, and other high-altitude lakes. North Sikkim is popular for its picturesque hamlets, flowering valleys, and snowfall. Sikkim is inhabited by 3 main communities: Lepcha, Bhutia, and Nepali.

Bhutan is an intriguing Buddhist kingdom with astounding natural beauty characterized by steep mountains and deep valleys. Add to that its vibrant culture, historical attractions, spiritual sites, and intrepid adventure, it packs enough for a visitor to go back satisfied.

Itinerary Itinerary


Arrival

  • After arriving at Bagdogra Airport/NJP railway station, you will make your way toward Gangtok. Lush green hills and the turquoise river Teesta will accompany you on the 4-hour drive.

  • Once you reach Gangtok, check in to your hotel. Rest for a while and then take a stroll around the main town. MG Marg is a pedestrian-only shopping center where you can explore the local cuisine at its many restaurants, enjoy the coffee shops and street food, and indulge in some shopping.

  • Overnight stay in Gangtok.

Excursion Trip to Tsomgo Lake - Bab Mandir - Nathula Pass

  • You will be visiting Tsomgo Lake today (3,000 m), 32 km from Gangtok. 

  • An oval-shaped lake spanning 1 km long and 15 m deep, this lake is very sacred to the local people. You can also enjoy the mesmerizing view of the lake from the ropeway. 

  • You will also visit Baba Mandir, which is a distinguished sightseeing place in Sikkim. 

  • This “mandir” or shrine is dedicated to “Baba” Harbhajan Singh, a soldier of the Indian Army who died near Nathula Pass.

  • Overnight stay in Gangtok.

Gangtok to Lachung

  • Early morning after breakfast departure for North Sikkim, You will be travelling through the hills in between the mountains and as you gain altitude, the landscape will also change, providing a beautiful contrast to East Sikkim.

  • En route, visit Naga Falls and the Seven Sister Falls.

  • Check-in at the hotel on arrival to Lachung. The evening is at leisure.

  • Overnight stay in Lachung. 

Lachung - Yumthang Valley - Lachen

  • Early morning after breakfast you will be visiting Yumthang Valley, which remains covered with snow in winter.

  • Enjoy a refreshing time at the hot water spring.

  • Drive back to Lachung for lunch and proceed to Lachen.

  • Overnight stay in Lachen. 

Lachen - Gurudongmar Lake - Gangtok 

  • Early morning drive to Thangu a remote high-altitude village of Tibetan nomads.

  • Breakfast at Thangu Valley and continue to drive to Gurudongmar Lake

  • Gurudongmar Lake, which is very close to the Tibet border, is one of the highest and biggest freshwater lakes in Sikkim.
  • After spending some time at Gurudongmar Lake, drive back to Lachen for lunch and depart for Gangtok.

  • Overnight stay in Gangtok. 

Gangtok - Phuentsholing 

  • After breakfast proceed to Jaigaon-Phuetsholing (border town).

  • Check-in at the hotel and evening at leisure. If time permits, you will proceed with immigration.

  • Overnight stay in Phuentsholing.

Phuentsholing - Thimphu

  • After breakfast, proceed toward Thimphu

  • Have lunch on the way. If you reach Thimphu early, you can start your sightseeing tour.  

  • Later in the evening, visit Tashichho Dzong.

  • The Dzong is a Buddhist monastery cum fortress at the northern edge of Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. The Dzong is built on the western bank of the river Wang Chu and has historically served as the seat of the Druk Desi or the Dharma Raja of Bhutan‟s government. The Dzong has been the seat of the Royal government since 1952 and presently houses the throne room and the king's secretariat. It is also home to several ministries of the Bhutanese government and the Central Monk Body which is the apex organization of the country's main spiritual order. The Thimphu Tsechu Festival is held here in autumn each year.

  • Overnight stay in Thimphu.

Thimphu - Paro

  • After breakfast drive to Paro. En route, visit Buddha Park, Takin Preserve Centre, Simply Bhutan, and Dochula Pass.

  • Overnight stay in Paro.

Paro

  • After an early breakfast, drive up to the base of Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest). It is the most famous and sacred site among all the places in Bhutan. 

  • Guru Padmasambhava is said to have come riding on a flying tigress to this place and meditated in a cave for 3 months, it wasn’t until Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal came to this place and meditated that it gained the popularity that it has now. The present structure is said to be built in the 15th century but was destroyed by fire in 1998 and has been restored.

  • The hike to the monastery takes about 2 hours. The trail has wide pathways which were built during the restoration works. 

  • In the evening drive to Pheuntsholing.

  • Overnight stay in Phuentsholing.

Phuentsholing - Bagdogra

  • You will drive to Bagdogra Airport from Phuentsholing.

  • Your trip concludes. Head back home with lots of pictures and awesome memories.
