Sohtyngkhur Village

Sohtyngkhur village is located under Mairang C&RD Block of West Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya, India. It is situated 15km away from Sub-Division Mairang and 60 km away from the district headquarter, Nongstoin. According to Census 2011, Sohtyngkhur has a total population of 890 people and a total of 151 houses.

The village has two beautiful falls‐the Khudoi Falls and the Kohmang Falls. The recently discovered waterfalls are however deprived of good road connectivity. With proper infrastructural development, they can attract more tourists and visitors.

Nongkhnum Island

Nongkhnum Island is the biggest river island in Meghalaya and the second biggest river island in Asia, after Majuli Island in Assam. Located about 14 Kms from Nongstoin, the district hqs. of West Khasi Hills, it is 20 to 25 sq. kms in area. Travelling on foot from Nongstoin through the villages of Lawse, Mawduh and Mawthar, it takes about two and a half-hours to reach the Island. There is a wooden bridge over the Weinia Fall to enter the Island.
