Ukhrul

Ukhrul is the highest hill station of Manipur. It is a tourist hotspot and is known for its festivals, with a festival being held nearly every month by different towns and villages. This place is home to the Tangkhuls, a major Naga ethnic group. Ukhrul is best known for the Shirui lily, which is found in its natural habitat on the peak of Shirui Kashong.

Khangkhui Cave

The Khangkhui cave is a stunning limestone cave dating back to the Paleolithic period. The cave has 2 large chambers, five tunnels, and one large hall. During WWII villagers took shelter in these caves. The cave also has an interesting legend attached to it. It is believed that it was inhabited by the devil king and his 2 wives. 

Kachouphung Lake

A fascinating feature of this lake is its shape, which resembles the map of India. It’s rich in a variety of fish, making it a popular spot for angling. The lake swells up during monsoons but its size can also be increased by bringing in water from the nearby Nily River. 

Shirui Hill


These hills are also known for a unique species of land- lily, the Shirui Lily, which grows at a height of 8,500ft. This beautiful lily which grows only in this part of the world blooms during May-June.
