Kalimpong

Kalimpong is a small and quiet hill station in West Bengal. It has fewer places of interest in comparison to Darjeeling but is pleasant to walk around and explore. It is situated between two hills which, on a clear morning, provides a mesmerizing view of Khangchendzonga. Deolo Hill provides the most sweeping panoramic views. Durpin Dara is the other hill, which has the Zang Dhok. The climate of Kalimpong is ideal for the cultivation of horticultural plants. It is indeed a very beautiful place to visit.

Place of Interest / Things to do
Delo Park

This beautiful nature park offers one of the best views of Mt. Khangchendzonga and River Teesta. On a clear day, the snow-clad mountains of West Sikkim are also visible from this hill. At the summit of this hill, there is a park built for recreation purposes and features exotic flowers. The park is a popular picnic spot for tourists as well as locals.

Durpin Dara Hill

Durpin Dara Hill is a must visit as it offers magnificient views of the Chola Range of Sikkim. The hill commands a panoramic view overlooking the town of Kalimpong, the snow-clad Himalayan ranges of West Sikkim, the Teesta River and its valleys, and the Jelepla Pass in the distance. A golf course is also present just off the summit.

Kalimpong Cactus Nursery

A place known for the largest number of commercial flower nurseries, Kalimpong nurseries specialize in the cultivation of exotic flowers. These are then exported to different parts of the country. There are numerous nurseries across town for you to enjoy, some of which are famous for housing exotic cactus. Cactus is often dismissed as a dry, desert plant, with not enough aesthetic value. But you'll be surprised to come across different varieties of cactus here that are found all across the world, all beautiful in their unique way.

Mangal Dham

Mangal Dham is one of the most significant religious centers in the beautiful hill station of Kalimpong. The place was built in memory of Guruji Shir Mangaldasji Maharaj who in 1940 arrived at Kalimpong and made it his home. He got several orphanages, schools, and temples constructed here to serve God and humans. Spreading over an area of about two acres, the temple features a prayer hall on the top floor, where an idol of Raj Shyamji is placed. So make sure to visit this pure and pious spot whenever you are in Kalimpong.

Lava

Lava is famous for its proximity to the Neora Valley National Park and the beautiful views of the Jelep La and Reche La passes. It is about 32 km east of Kalimpong. Oak and fir trees welcome the visitor at Lava. It is also known for its leaches, found in abundance here, especially during the rainy season. The small town can be reached either through Dooars through Kalimpong. Lava offers some nice walks for nature lovers.
