Soon after breakfast, your sightseeing tour begins. You will be covering the following places:

Kuensel Phodrang: It’s the world’s largest sitting Buddha statue at 167 feet high situated on top of a hill overlooking the city. The word kuensel means everything is clear, and from this place you can enjoy a great view of the Thimphu Valley on both sides.

Motithang Takin Preserve: The Motithang Takin Preserve is also known as the Thimphu Zoo by many. It is a small natural preserve for the Takin, Bhutan’s national animal.  It was originally a mini zoo but was later converted to a preserve.

Memorial Chorten: Referred to as Memorial Chorten, its actual name is Gongzo Chorten or Gyaldren Chorten. The chorten (stupa) is a chief landmark in the capital city and is also the most sacred place of worship for the local people.

Once your tour is complete, you will drive to the historic town of Paro, which has Bhutan’s sole international airport.

If interested, you can make a detour to Dochula Pass, which is at an altitude of 3100 m above sea level. If the day is sunny, you can make a stop here and witness a spectacular view of the majestic eastern Himalayan ranges.

You will be staying for the night in Paro. We advise you to get a good night’s rest as you have a 2-3 hour hike coming up the next day.
